The Real Madrid midfielder memorably guided Croatia to second place in the 2018 World Cup and third at the competition in Qatar the year before.

In a matchup with a Spain team that Modric, 37, is quite familiar with, Croatia was vying for their first-ever major prize.

Following the heartbreaking loss, images of the heartbroken midfielder appeared on the front pages of newspapers all around Croatia on Monday.

Yesterday was really emotional for him, Dalic remarked.

The coach said, “Let him rest and he will let us know what he thinks.”

According to sources in the local media, Modric stated on Sunday that he had already taken a “clear decision” on his international career but provided no further details.

As he was leaving the Rotterdam stadium, Modric stated, “I won’t reveal it now.
