Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, stated that beating the follow-on score would be the team’s primary goal.

After having trouble on the first day against century-makers Steve Smith and Travis Head, the Indian pacers fared well to contain Australia.

Before being removed for a respectable 121, Smith scored his 31st Test century, while Head went on to make a counterattacking 163.

The most productive Indian bowler was Mohammed Siraj, who finished with 4/108 in 28.3 overs, while Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur each took two wickets.
